Baltimore County has a diverse business community that is at the center of a compact East Coast market. With 612 square miles of land, Baltimore County has the third largest land area, the third largest population and the second highest number of jobs in Maryland. The county consistently receives AAA bond ratings from Moody’s Fitch Ratings and Standard & Poor’s. Less than 1% of all jurisdictions in the nation receive the highest rating from all agencies. The high-quality bond rating saves taxpayers millions of dollars in interest annually.
Baltimore County and the county seat of Towson are situated in the geographic center of Maryland, surrounding the city of Baltimore almost entirely. The county is the largest jurisdiction in the metropolitan area, with a population of nearly 800,000. Baltimore County does not include the city of Baltimore, which was split off as an independent city in 1851. There are no incorporated towns, villages, municipalities or other political subdivisions in the county.
